A Trial of Vitex Peduncularis in Malaria

W. E. Jones AND H. W. Butler
From the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, Tulane University of Louisiana

1. Vitex Peduncularis was tried in 5 cases of malaria, 3 Tertian and 2 Estivo-autumnal, details of which are given.
2. No conclusive evidence was obtained of any effect whatever of the Vitex on the symptoms or the plasmodia in malaria.
3. On the contrary, the effect of quinine in 4 cases and apparently of Neosalvarsan in 1 case, in all of which Vitex had not been effective, was prompt and striking.
4. The information obtained seems to show that if Vitex has any effect in malaria it is negligible as compared with that of quinine.

Received December 20, 1923.
