American Journal of Tropical Medicine

Tallahassee, Florida

Dear Dr. Boyd:

We are writing to enlist your assistance in a plan to honor the memory of our friend, Dr. Richard Pearson Strong, by the establishment in the Harvard School of Public Health of an endowed Chair which will be designated as The Richard Pearson Strong Professorship of Tropical Medicine. As you know, we all owe much to the pioneer leadership of Richard Strong in developing the important field of tropical medicine and public health. The enclosed leaflet gives a resume of Strong's remarkable career.

In the near future the Department of Tropical Medicine will be transferred from the Harvard Medical School to the Harvard School of Public Health, where it is vitally needed. As additional funds become available, the new Department of Tropical Public Health will be expanded upon the foundation laid by Richard Strong, and an appointee will be selected for the Richard Pearson Strong Professorship.
