REPORT ON FINDING THE TICK, ORNITHODORUS TURICATA, NATURALLY INFECTED

1. A cave harboring the tick Ornithodorus turicata, is reportedfrom Denton County, Texas.
2. The cave was identified as theSam Bass Cave studied previouslyby Kemp and his associates.
3. For the first time experimental evidence is presented thatmany of these ticks are naturally infected with the spirocheteof relapsing fever and that they are able to transmit the infectionto man and white rats.
4. An attempt has been made to indicatethe possible mechanismsthrough which the infection in thisarea apparently disappearedand reappeared.
