Five cases of early yaws were treated with penicillin. The drug caused healing of local lesions in all five cases that was comparable to the favorable effect usually obtained with arsenical drugs. In 3 darkfield positive cases the drug caused prompt disappearance of the surface organisms. It is felt that further experimental trial of penicillin is indicated in this disease.
Received March 16, 1945.
