Formation of Mexican Society of Tropical Medicine. The Mexican Society of Tropical Medicine was formed in April 1943, by a group which recognized the necessity for a scientific organization in this field in an essentially tropical country, in which there are already working a number of scientists whose number daily increases. Within and without the Department of Public Health there exists a profound interest in the pathology of the tropics and of the social consequences of these diseases, as is demonstrated by the studies already accomplished for either the cure or prevention of the diseases of this category.

The purpose of the organization is to unite the persons referred to, in order that they may become acquainted, exchange ideas and present to each other the nature of their studies and investigations and the results of their efforts, and to promote collaboration in order that studies of tropical diseases may be intensified.
