Comparative in Vitro Effect of the Various Sulfonamides on V. Cholerae

From the Division of Bacteriology, Army Medical School, Army Medical Center, Washington, D. C.

1. The sulfonamides exert a bacteriostatic action upon V. cholerae in media devoid of sulfonamide inhibitors.
2. Sulfathiazole exerts the greatest bacteriostatic effect upon V. cholerae, and is followed by sulfadiazine, sulfaguanidine and sulfanilamide, in order of decreasing efficiency.
