This is the semicentennial edition of Osler's Practice of Medicine and amply sustains the reputation of previous editions. A work that has reached the fourteenth edition needs no long review as it is evident that it has met with the approbation of the medical profession and has answered the needs of students. As the author states in the Preface the text is changed to fit recent advances in medicine but the spirit of past editions has been preserved, and nothing new has been added that has not proven worth while by experience. The volume contains much that is new and has been brought thoroughly up-to-date and the author is to be congratulated upon his successful revision. The successive editions of this standard text-book on medicine has mirrored accurately the progress in medical science and a comparison of the first edition with the present should give one a most satisfactory review of medical history so far as the practice of medicine is concerned.
