Transactions of the American Society of Tropical Medicine, Thirty-Fifth Annual Meeting

Meeting in Memphis, Tennessee, in Conjunction with the National Malaria Committee and the American Academy of Tropical Medicine, as Guests of the Southern Medical Association, November 21–24, 1939

The first session of the Society was called to order at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 21, in the Municipal Auditorium by President Alfred C. Reed, San Francisco, California. The program of papers follows:

1. Edward B. Vedder, Washington, D. C. "A Discussion of the Etiology of Sprue with a New Hypothesis." Discussed by Doctors Craig, Mackie, Spies, Meleney, Castle and Vedder.
2. The Fourth Charles Franklin Craig Lecture on Tropical Medicine. Dr. W. H. Taliaferro, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois. "The Mechanism of Acquired Immunity to Metazoal Parasites."
3. The award of the Walter Reed medal to Dr. William B. Castle, Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Richard P. Strong of Boston cited the outstanding contributions by Dr. Castle in the field of tropical medicine, together with an interesting biography of the recipient. In accepting the medal, Dr. Castle remarked in part as follows:
"I am most genuinely appreciative of this very great honor.
