Biochemical Reactions of Leishmania Tropica1

Seven locally isolated strains of Leishmania tropica were uniform in their biochemical reactions, i.e.

1. No production of acid or gas from carbohydrates,
2. No liquifaction of gelatin,
3. Methyl red reaction was negative,
4. Voges Prauskauer reaction was negative,
5. Peptonization of milk,
6. Bile soluble,
7. No production of indol.
