The first edition of this work was published eight years ago and the progress made in chemotherapy since that time has been enormous. In this second edition, the author has given an excellent summary of this progress and the information that the work contains is invaluable to the busy practitioner of medicine, who does not have the opportunity or time to read the literature upon the subject which is very extensive, and much of it in foreign languages.

Since the publication of the first edition the discovery of atabrine has greatly improved the treatment of malaria and, with the discovery of the sulphonamide drugs, the treatment of many bacterial infections has been revolutionized. The author covers what is known regarding the application of the latter drugs in treatment, together with the mode of action, toxicity, and prevention of toxicity, in over 100 pages, while atabrine is well discussed in considering the treatment of malaria.
