1. Experiments concerning the mechanism of transmission in manof Chinese relapsing fever have been performed on 6 normal subjectsand 4 patients with general paralysis of the insane.
2. Thebites of lice infected with the Chinese strain of Borreliarecurrentisare not infective to man.
3. The feces of lice infected withBor. recurrentis are notinfectious to man.
4. Man contractsrelapsing fever through crushing the infectedlice on slightlytraumatized skin such as that following lousebites and scratching,or through introducing the infective materialto the conjunctivaewith infected fingers.
5. On two occasions the dropping oflarge numbers of Bor. recurrentisonto the skin of a patientwith general paralysis of the insanefailed to produce relapsingfever.
6. Repeated attempts to produce relapsing fever byinstillinglarge numbers of Bor. recurrentis onto the mucousmembranesof the oral cavity failed.
7. The incubation periodof relapsing fever in two patientswas found to be 11 days forthe cutaneous route and 8 days forthe conjunctival route.
