1. Among 622 cases of pudendal lesions examined at the VenerealLaboratory at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, La., 37 cases ofprimary fusospirochetal infections were encountered.
2. Thecolored race, the male sex and the age groups between20 and30 years were most frequently represented in our seriesof patientssuffering from the infection.
3. Intense local pain and penetratingfoul discharge were theprincipal clinical manifestations. Intwelve cases constitutionalsymptoms were present. One casewas fatal.
4. Superficial erosions, well circumscribed ulcerationsandprogressive destruction of the genitalia and perineum representedthe most frequently encountered lesions.
5. As causal organismsthe symbiotic group of Vincent's organismscould be demonstratedin all lesions while other etiologicalfactors could be excluded.Treponema Vincenti appears to bethe most important member ofthis group in the pathogenesisof the ulcerative lesions.
