Studies on Malaria in the Tennessee Valley1

The Influence of Physiography on the Occurrence of Breeding Places of Anopheles Quadrimaculatus in Northern Alabama

Robert B. Watson AND E. L. Spain, Jr.
From the Health Section and the Geology Division of the Tennessee Valley Authority, Wilson Dam, Alabama

A description has been given of the natural breeding places of Anopheles quadrimaculatus; and of the physiography of northern Alabama. It has been shown that a definite relationship exists between the occurrence of certain types of physiography and these breeding places. The probable effect of impounding of the Tennessee on production of A. quadrimaculatus is briefly discussed.

Received May 1, 1936.
1 The studies on which this paper is based were carried out with the support and under the auspices of the Tennessee Valley Authority.
