The gametocytes of P. vivax have not been observed prior to the 14th day following inoculation, although they may be present along with the first trophozoites detected. They are invariably found at some time during the disease when the illness exceeds 16 days' duration. The density appears proportional to the duration of the attack and tends to reach a maximum shortly before its termination. The observations suggest that they are renewed at regular intervals.
