Flight Range of the Funestus-Minimus Subgroup of Anopheles in the Philippines

First Experiment with Stained Mosquitoes1

The distance which anopheline mosquitoes can fly is discussed in a general way, with citations from the literature. The first flight-experiment in the Philippines is reported. In this experiment, stained mosquitoes of the malaria-carrying species were liberated, some being recaptured later at various distances from the liberating point. Of the funestus-minimus subgroup, A. minimus var. flavirostris was recaptured 0.5 kilometer from the liberating point; A. mangyanus with 0.9 kilometer of this point, and A. filipinae at 1 kilometer from the point.
