Manual of Veterinary Bacteriology

By RAYMOND A. KELSER. Second Edition. Pages vi + 552. The Williams & Wilkins Company, Baltimore, 1933

L. C. Scott

The reviewer has read this new edition of Kelser's book with much attention and profit. The chapters and subject material are arranged in excellent order and the contents are for the most part sufficiently concise for teaching purposes, this being no doubt the intent of the work, and at the same time complete enough to serve very satisfactorily as a reference volume. Only one very slight criticism might be suggested, and this is that the otherwise excellent chapter on the filterable viruses could possibly with advantage be extended with more complete descriptions of the diseases caused by these viruses. Human medicine, it is true, is but little concerned with many of the filterable virus infections mentioned in the chapter, but they are none the less interesting on that account and we would like very much to know more about them from an acknowledged authority on the types occurring in the lower animals.
