Isolation of St. Louis encephalitis virus in Panama is reported. The virus was recovered five times from Sabethes chloropterus. It was also recovered from a pool of S. cyaneus, S. tarsopus (and a related new species), S. undosus, S. fabricii, and from human blood. It was present over a period of at least 8 months in Paya, Darien.
