A special form of oral potassium antimony tartrate (prepared by The Upjohn Company) is absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract and antimony is excreted in the urine. Approximately 23 mg of this potassium antimony tartrate have been taken by a normal adult three or four times daily for as long as 45 days, with no evidence of significant toxicity.
In three instances American dermal leishmaniasis due to L. brasiliensis was successfully treated with this preparation.
