A violent type of yaws relapse was found in 4 outermost villages of Guam; 1,030 children were treated with 4 doses each of depository penicillin and bismuth subsalicylate.
The lowest relapse rate five to eight months after treatment was found in the village having the best DDT control of its flies and the best trash clean-up; the worst rate occurred in the village having poorest success with its fly population. A third village closely approximated the first one in accomplishment but the fourth village had too many cases left untreated to permit valid interpretations.
Scabies and its treatment did not appear to influence yaws relapse but chickenpox could be considered an exciting factor to a high degree.
