Information from: Gustavo Justines, Middle America Research Unit, Box 2011, Balboa Heights, Canal Zone, 21 August 1969.

Antigenic group: Capím.

Original source: Isolated by Gustavo Justines at Middle America Research Unit from pool of 18 adult female, unfed Aedeomyia squamipennis collected 20 December 1962 in light trap at Gamboa, Canal Zone, Republic of Panamá, Lat. 9° 08' N, Long. 79° 42' W. Habitat: Semi-deciduous forest at river margin. Light trap 5 feet above ground. Storage: Mosquitoes stored at 4°C until inoculation in mice.

Method of isolation in laboratory: Whole mosquitoes triturated in 25% normal rabbit serum in phosphate-buffered saline solution, pH 7.2. Inoculated 0.02 ml ic in 2-day-old mice on 21 December 1962.

Validity of isolation: Virus reisolated.

Properties of virus: Physical: Filterable through Millipore 220 nm without loss of titer, but not the 100 nm. Size estimated by filtration at 70 to 150 nm. Chemical: RNA virus. Resistance to chemicals: Sensitive to 1:100 sodium deoxycholate; control titer 104.7, after-treatment titer <102.0.
