Original source: Isolated by G. Justines at Middle America Research Unit from brain of infant laboratory white mouse exposed 7 feet above ground in study area at Barriada La Concepcio
in Juan Diaz, Panamá, Republic of Panamá, Lat. 9° 02' N, Long. 79° 27' W. Sentinel mouse collected 12 September 1962 after 48 hours exposure. Habitat (study area): Open coastal lowland, grass and bush vegetation. Storage: In sentinel mouse exposed in nature.
Method of isolation in laboratory: Brain from sentinel mouse showing convulsion and paralysis ground in 25% normal rabbit serum in phosphate-buffered saline pH 7.2. Inoculated 0.02 ml ic in 2-day-old mouse on 26 September 1962.
Validity of isolation: Virus reisolated.
Property of virus: Physical: No data. Chemical: RNA virus. Resistance to chemicals: Sensitive to 1:100 sodium deoxycholate; control titer 104.3, after-treatment titer <101.0.
