Antigenic group: Ganjam.
Original source: Isolated by Virus Research Laboratory, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, from adult male Amblyomma variegatum picked by hand from cattle on 14 and 15 October 1964 at Ibadan, Nigeria, Lat. 7° 20' N, Long. 3° 50' E. Habitat: White Fulani cattle at cattle market. Between Guinea woodland and rain forest vegetation zones. Storage: Ticks stored in -70°C Revco until inoculated into mice.
Method of isolation in laboratory: Ground suspension in bovine albumin in phosphate-buffered saline solution. Inoculated in 4-day-old mice 0.02 ml ic on 16 October 1964.
Validity of isolation: Numerous isolations from tick pools and cattle blood, and specific antibody in associated animals.
Properties of virus: Physical: Filterable through Seitz EK filter pad. Chemical: No data. Resistance to chemicals: Sensitive to 1:1,000 sodium deoxycholate; control titer 107.4, aftertreatment titer 103.5. Sensitive to 1:100 chloroform; control titer 105.9, after-treatment titer
