Information from: R. L. Doherty, Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Brisbane, Australia, 3 January 1968.

Antigenic group: Ungrouped.

Original source: Isolated by R. L. Doherty and colleagues at Queensland Institute of Medical Research from pool of 31 adult female mosquitoes of 11 species taken 16 October 1963 in light and chicken-baited traps at Dinner Creek, near Innisfail, Queensland, Lat. 17° 30' S, Long. 146° 0' E. Habitat: Mixed mesophyll-vine forest between Graham Range and Eubenangee swamp, high rainfall area. Light traps 1.4 meters above ground, chicken traps 0.4 to 1 meter above ground. Storage: Mosquitoes stored on solid CO2 or in -57°C Revco until inoculation into mice.

Method of isolation in laboratory: Ground suspension in 10% heated rabbit serum in 0.9% NaCl solution. Inoculated 0.015 ml ic in 1-day-old mice on 25 October 1963.

Validity of isolation: Reisolation not tried.

Properties of virus: Physical: Size as measured by electron microscopy in infected mouse brain and BHK-21 cell sections 58–63 nm.
