This is "must" reading for anyone interested in the social and economic development of the less-developed areas of the world. Professor McJunkin has done a scholarly and exhaustive study of the role of community water supply in development and in particular the contribution of the United States, which amounts, since World War II, to over one billion dollars. It is emphasized that the task has barely been begun, and although there are impressive examples throughout the world of progress which has been made, all that can truthfully be said is that a foundation has been laid. In brief, more information about community water supplies has been compressed into this modest publication than any similar one that has come to my attention.
