This monograph on the hazards of immunization is a unique book since it documents the positive harm, including death, that can result from the efforts of physicians to immunize healthy persons against illness or death from various infectious diseases.

The author, Sir Graham S. Wilson, was for many years the director of the Public Health Laboratory Service of England and Wales. As the director of the Public Health Laboratory, he was aware of the possibility of accident of all sorts that might result in damage to the recipients of the vaccines. A friend of his, Dr. R. A. O'Brien, who had spent a life time collecting records of various disasters associated with immunizations turned these records over to Dr. Wilson in 1959. After Wilson's retirement in 1963, he made the study that appears now in book form.

The author not only reports the various types of mishaps that have occurred but also analyzes the different patterns of the accident.
