A comparative study was carried out in four groups of 112 semi-immune persons in Kainji, Nigeria, with acute falciparum malaria and treated respectively with chloroquine, with Kelfizina plus pyrimethamine (100:1), with Kelfizina plus pyrimethamine (100:5), and with Kelfizina plus Trimethoprim (2:1). Suppression of malaria resulted as follows: Group 1, in 27 of 30; Group 2, in 20 of 22; Group 3, in 28 of 30; and Group 4, in all of 30. A statistical study showed a significantly quicker disappearance of parasitemia in Group 4. Follow-up examinations done later in some of the patients showed no relapses. The combination of Kelfizina and Trimethoprim appears to constitute a promising treatment.
